Our training services focus on key topics such as senior care and advocacy, empowering individuals and organizations to improve the quality of life for older adults and those with disabilities.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia related diseases
NIAAA collaborates with the Alzheimer’s Association of Illinois on various related educational programs.
Caregiver Support and Education
NIAAA's provider agencies offer educational programs to help caregivers manage the challenges of caring for older adults. These programs focus on reducing caregiver stress, navigating benefits, and providing quality care at home.
Long-Term Care Ombudsman Training
NIAAA partners with the Catholic Charities Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program to provide training that helps ensure the rights of long-term care residents are protected. This training is essential for anyone advocating for quality care in nursing homes and other care facilities.
As of 2019, 21% of Illinois' population is aged 60 or older, with the senior population expected to continue growing in the coming decades.
Approximately 80% of older adults in Illinois live with at least one chronic health condition, such as heart disease, diabetes, or arthritis, making chronic disease management a critical area for senior care education.
There are more than 1.5 million unpaid family caregivers in Illinois, providing vital support to older adults and those with disabilities.
In 2019, the Department on Aging responded to more than 20,000 reports of abuse of adults 60 years of age and older and persons 18-59 with a disability.
An estimated 10% of seniors in Illinois face food insecurity.
